With our digital platform we create increased quality of life. Because with the right digital services, we can focus on things that are important in life, and it is everything from entertainment to health care, school and home automation – things that give a better quality of life. Therefore, we have to build open digital platforms where the digital services of the future, in different ways, help each of us to a better life.

It all started in a small town outside Stockholm, Sweden

The company was founded in 2009 under the name Swedish Infrastructure and was then a consulting company. During that year and years before, there was great demand from both private individuals and municipalities in Sweden for better and more stable digital opportunities. We thought we could solve this and took the chance when we got it in Österskär in northern Stockholm. We did a test of building an open digital infrastructure with fiber, where all of the market’s digital services, in free competition, could be delivered to households and companies. The test was a success and the rumor spread to nearby areas.

The rest is history and today we have expanded to become one of Scandinavia’s largest digital communication infrastructures. As individuals, we at Open Infra have been involved for more than 20 years in the expansion of digital platforms in Sweden, ranging from fiber installations in multi-family houses with the companies Bredbandsbolaget and Ownit to the fact that today at Open Infra we help most municipalities and the whole of Sweden’s countryside to access world-class digital infrastructure.We are still run and owned by the founders and the people that work within the company group. We are independent and not controlled by any large telecom operator or venture capital companies and can therefore act with a long horizon in mind. This is something that provides security and the opportunity for continuous development in our work with digital infrastructure.

“Then we take Berlin”

Open Infra is today established in over 50 locations in northern Scandinavia and at the end of 2019 we entered Berlin, Germany, with the placement of our first European node (a digital hub in a network) to start a long-awaited fiber expansion there as well. Germany and several other countries in Europe have not come as far as Sweden when it comes to fiber expansion and here, Open Infra wants and can help. Several other countries have shown interest and we have already started several dialogues. Since mid-2020 we are also present in the United States with our base in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.

Digital communication and digital services are something for everyone

Many social services of various kinds are today digitized, but still not everyone can access it in a safe and reliable way. We want to change that as soon as possible. A city, a municipality or a country with good digital opportunities can create competitive advantages over those without. But above all, we want to create digital tools that will have an impact on our lives. If we are able to build the foundation for that, we have succeeded.

We believe in an open digital platform where unlimited digital traffic in free competition can flow, because right now it creates opportunities for all the world’s fantastic entrepreneurs to create the digital services of the future.

We who work at Open Infra are constantly evolving when we have to find new creative models to build on, and we are also building a fantastic company in an industry that is just in its infancy. But above all, we are building the foundation for the digital services of the future, which contributes to increased quality of life in Sweden, Europe, U.S., and beyond!
